About Us
Our Story
Barnhart Bolt was founded in 1993 by Roger Barnhart, but it’s roots in West Texas goes back much further. Roger got his start in fasteners sweeping the floors at a stud bolt manufacturer in Beaumont, TX after he received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force in 1974. In 1976 he moved to Odessa with his wife and 2 young sons to manage a fastener retail store in Midland, TX. Soon after going to work in Midland, Roger helped the owners open 2 more locations in Odessa and Hobbs. Several years later, Roger had the opportunity to open a new fastener company in which he would have ownership. In 1980 he opened Odessa Nut & Bolt with 2 partners where he got up close and personal with the highs and lows of the Permian Basin boom/bust economy as well as the highs and lows of partnerships. In mid-1993 Roger decided once again to make a move, but this time it would be on his own.
Barnhart Bolt opened for business on October 8, 1993, and, at the time, employed Roger, his wife Teresa, and his youngest son Chad. His eldest son Dax moved to Odessa from Tyler, TX in December of ’93 to join the company as well. Dax remains with the company as GM/VP to this day. Barnhart Bolt has come a long way from its humble beginnings in a small warehouse on 87th street. As of 2024, the company consists of four retail locations in Odessa, Midland, Hobbs, and El Reno, a corporate office in Odessa, and employs 80+ team members. Among the employees is Roger’s grandson, Aaron Barnhart, who is learning the “Barnhart Way” of doing things.
The term “Barnhart Way” was coined by retired sales manager, David Lester. David began using this term while training new team members.
“We do things different here. We never settle for well enough; we keep our facilities clean; we take care of our customers, and we always strive to set ourselves apart from the competition by constantly growing and improving the way we do things. This is the way Roger and Dax built this company. This is the Barnhart Way.” – David Lester.
